University High School of Science and Engineering was founded in response to a growing concern in the United States that an insufficient number of students are prepared in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for the United States to remain a leader in scientific innovation and compete in a global economy. UHSSE offers a rigorous curriculum in science and engineering with advanced level science and math courses including the nationally recognized Project Lead the Way engineering program, www.pltw.org. The theme is extended to extra- curricular activities with the spirited robotics team. UHSSE also features an early-college partnership with the University of Hartford through which qualifying students may take up to 12 credits per semester at no cost while still enrolled at UHSSE.
