The Greater Hartford Academy of Mathematics and Science provides students with exciting scientific experiences through unique teaching methods and the use of state-of-the-art technology. These activities are designed to motivate students toward higher levels of achievement in the natural sciences.

Real world applications of science connect students to the technological and societal impacts of science and integrate concepts of math into scientific exploration. The ability to make connections between mathematics and science empowers students with knowledge, confidence, and motivation to extend themselves beyond the classroom. This school is managed by CREC.

Academic/School Programs

Special Features:

  • State-of-the-art laboratories for research on cell cultures, lasers/photonics, molecular genetics, robotics/electronics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), botanical studies, forensic science, and nuclear physics.
  • Advanced courses in Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Nuclear Physics, Thermodynamics, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, and Pharmacology
  • Advanced Placement courses include Biology, Chemistry, Classical Mechanics (Physics C), Electricity and Magnetism (Physics C), Calculus AB and BC, Statistics, and Computer Science.
  • Freshman and sophomores take two sciences and one math each year. Freshman take physics and earth science and sophomores take chemistry and biology. Freshman and sophomore math option include Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Precalculus.
  • Diverse student body from over 30 cities and towns in the Greater Hartford area, representing urban, suburban, and rural districts.
