At Noah Webster MicroSociety Magnet School, students collaborate with parents, community members and teachers to build a miniature society in the school and establish a center of commerce and governance in which every child and adult participates. Children create and manage business ventures such as museums, travel agencies, quiz shows and theaters that produce goods and provide services. They also run agencies such as the Peacekeepers and the court that lay the groundwork for organized accountability. At the Noah Webster Bank, students handle the school currency balancing accounts and cashing paychecks. Our student Executive Branch works closely with classroom delegates to plan and organize events. Students develop the values of self-discipline, work habits and academic and life skills needed to achieve success in a global society. The school community is one in which the teachers, students, parents, and community volunteers work together to build a “real world” inside the school facility. Based on 2009-10 enrollment data, the school meets the state integration standard.
