Program Overview:
High School, Inc. is a college preparatory school model for 400 high school students, grades 9-12, who are interested in pursuing careers in the insurance and financial services industries. The school opened its doors in August 2009.
In order to create an optimum learning environment that maximizes the resources that exists in the City of Hartford, which is internationally known as the Insurance Capital, the academy is located in the heart of downtown Hartford at 275 Asylum Street.
The location of the school affords students convenience and opportunity to participate in corporate field experiences, such as job shadowing and internships, as well as make a real-world connection to daily corporate life.
Program Offering/Key Fact:
High School, Inc. is a NAF (National Academy Foundation) Finance Academy.NAF provides the curriculum and support network for the insurance and finance courses.There are over 500 NAF academies nationwide.This extensive network of academies provides opportunities for students to interact with their peers from around the country at conferences and other events. NAF provides a curriculum that is 21st century in every sense of the meaning.The curriculum is 100% online, and the entire curriculum is created by professionals from the industry.For instance, the Insurance course was created and is continually updated by professionals from the New York Life Insurance Company.NAF continues to create articulated agreements with colleges and universities that will give credit for NAF courses students have completed.Some of these schools are :Georgia Tech, Johnson and Wales University, Pierce College, and Lee University.
