> What is Magnet Education of Greater Hartford

Magnet Education of Greater Hartford is a group of magnet schools available to CT residents through the Regional School Choice Office. The RSCO facilitates that application process for MEGH schools which is based on a random lottery selection.

> Where is it located and when is it open for business?

The RSCO Office is located at 165 Capitol Avenue, Room 270, Hartford, CT  06106.
The RSCO is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. RSCO will be closed for certain holidays (e.g., New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, and Christmas). You do not need to make an appointment. RSCO may be open additional hours during the application period. 

> Who can apply to Magnet Education of Greater Hartford schools?

All residents of Connecticut including Hartford and the surrounding region.

> How can I apply?

By completing and submitting a RSCO common application by the deadline. Parents are encouraged to complete the RSCO application online and keep a copy of the application they submit. Please refer to the “Apply Now” section of this site to apply for a MEGH school.

Refer to our “Contact Us” link to find out how to reach us for help. The RSCO Office is located at 165 Capitol Avenue, Room 270, Hartford, CT if you’d like to visit.

> When can I apply?

You can apply during the open application period. The open application period for the school year of 2012-2013 is now open until January 20, 2012. Applications must be submitted by the deadline of January 20, 2012; late applications will NOT be placed into the lottery and will automatically be placed on the waitlist. 

> If I apply to the lottery, and do not make it into a Magnet Education of Greater Hartford school this year, am I automatically on the waiting list for next year?

No. The lottery for each year is for that year alone. Any future desire to be placed in the lottery would require you to re-apply.

> How will I know if I have been placed in a school or if I am on the waitlist?

If your student has been placed in a MEGH school you will receive a BLUE Placement Response form. You will need to sign and return this form by the indicated date to secure your placement. If your student is placed on the waitlist, you will receive a GREEN Waitlist Response form. You will need to return this form by the indicated date to secure your spot on the waitlist.

> How will I know if my child will be provided transportation?

Transportation is provided to about 50 towns surrounding Hartford for children Kindergarten-Grade 12.

> How is admission into Magnet Education of Greater Hartford Schools decided?

All seats are awarded through a lottery conducted annually by the Regional School Choice Office. 

> If I apply for a seat, when will I find out if my child can attend?

> What are the tuition costs for parents and towns?

Magnet Education of Greater Hartford Schools are tuition free to students and their sending districts.

> How old does my student have to be to apply for a MEGH school?

Students may apply at age 2, but must turn 3 years old by December 31, 2012.
