Program Overview:
The mission of the Moylan Montessori School is to educate students through the highly successful education methods and best practices of Dr. Maria Montessori. The vision of Montessori education is the emphasis of learning through the five senses. Children will learn at their own individual pace according to their own choice of activities and are encouraged to engage in manipulative exploration. Montessori learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline and a lifelong love of learning.
Program Offering/Key Facts:
- Individual learning takes place within the environment - The Moylan Montessori School recognizes that each child learns at a different pace and allows that growth to take place
- There is an emphasis on concrete learning rather than on abstract learning - Children need to experience concepts in concrete "hands-on" ways
- It is a child-centered environment - All the materials are easily within the child's reach and placed on shelves at their levels. The tables and chairs are small enough for the children to sit comfortably while the pictures and decorations are placed at the children's eye level
- The environment provides a natural sense of discipline - The expectations of the child are clearly stated and are enforced by the children and the teachers
Special features:
- Fully equipped classrooms with specialized didactic materials approved by Association Montessori Internationale (AMI)
- All teachers have a AMI Montessori diploma and CT State teacher certification
- Highly qualified assistant teachers in each classroom, most with full or partial AMI Montessori teacher training
- Multi-age classrooms
- Access to a beautiful courtyard and playground
- "The Power of Three" Parent-Child-School Compact
- "Going-out" excursions led by students
