Classical Magnet School provides highly motivated students with the opportunity to engage in a rigorous liberal arts curriculum firmly rooted in the classics. The Classical faculty prepares students for success in the most competitive colleges and universities in the nation upon completion of their course of classical study. All students carry a full course load of Latin, English, history, math and science for each of their seven years in the school. Teachers utilize the Paideia method of instruction, which places the responsibility for learning on the students.
- Afternoon enrichment program emphasizes the development of the whole student.
- Academic and Civic & Social Expectations for student learning. Students are expected to model good citizenship and interpersonal skills.
- Students demonstrate the school’s core values of dignitas, gravitas, and pietas while also demonstrating the ability to read and think critically, write and communicate clearly and effectively and problem solve
- Students read original texts in classic literature and world philosophy giving them the cultural literacy necessary for success in college.
- Professional local artists and community arts organizations, such as the Hartford Stage Company and the Hartford Conservatory, provide authentic programming within the Classical program
- Students develop athletic talents through competition in CIAC-approved interscholastic sports
- $36 million facility in the West End/Asylum Hill neighborhood
- After school programs include drama, arts, music, and sports.
