At the time the application is submitted, it is expected that parents and students understand and intend to fully comply with the academic program and uniform requirements of each school.
All applications (electronically submitted, mailed, faxed or hand delivered) must be received by the application deadline date of February 17th, 2009. Applications are also available online at www.choiceeducation.org; www.magneteducation.org; www.crec.org; and www.hartfordschools.org
- Parents are responsible for making certain that applications arrive to the Regional School Choice Office.
- All applications submitted after the application deadline will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis according to the availability of seats at each school.
- Parents are strongly encouraged to list up to eight selections of schools on the application form in the order of preference, ranking their selections from the highest to the lowest choice.
- Each child must submit a separate application even if the family has more than one child applying to the same school.
A written notification of your child's placement will be mailed out beginning March 9th, 2009.
If a student is not selected for any of their choices, they will be placed on a wait lists. Students will be selected from the wait list as seats become available.

Educational Program
The district where the student attends is responsible for the student’s educational program. Parents should make every effort to establish a close relationship with the school and the child’s teacher.
Transportation
Transportation is coordinated by CREC and paid for by the State of Connecticut. Bus travel of one hour or more each way may be required. Pickups and drop-offs are at nearby schools. Limited transportation is provided for middle and high school students participating in supervised afterschool activities.
- Magnet and non-magnet students are entitled to free transportation by yellow bus and/or CTA Metro Pass.
- Transportation is available for students in grades K - 12 for regular school hours only.
- Parents of Pre-K students must provide transportation for their children.
- A parent/guardian must be present at the time of pick-up and drop-off for all students in Kindergarten through grade three.
- Parents are responsible for transporting students to and from extracurricular activities or events.
- Transportation may include cluster stops for Hartford.
- Transportation Request Forms must be completed at the time of enrollment at the school.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Open Choice Program, students must be residents of Hartford and attend a public school (K – 12) in Hartford. Students enrolled in private or other non-public schools are not eligible for this program.
Eligible siblings are given priority when placements are made and, where possible, are placed in the same district.
