Medical Professions and Teacher Preparation Magnet School

The CREC Medical Professions and Teacher Preparation Academy is a partnership between CREC, St. Francis Hospital, and the University of Hartford. The unique dual themes of the magnet school will provide students strong academic and personal leadership preparation that will lead to a career in either the medical/health professions or PreK-12 teaching.

The strong partnerships with health care professionals and public school and university level educators will provide a wide array of opportunities for internships and mentorships.  This school is managed by CREC.

 

Quick Stats

The Academy is scheduled to open for 2010-2011 serving students in Grades 6 - 9, and will serve students in Grades 6 - 12 in future years.

 

Academic/School Programs

Special Features:

  • Specialized courses focusing on preparation for a career in the medical professions or education.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant before graduating from high school.
  • The opportunity for aspiring teachers to participate in CREC’s Teacher Cadet programs.
  • Opportunities for internships and mentorships including job shadowing.
  • College preparatory focus with the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school
